PRE-RELEASE VISIVA SERIES: POISSONS January 24th, 2012 - Main

Super picks up the concept of printed acetate and takes it even further than it had a few years back with the infamous  Alife collaboration (entirely wiped-out and sold-out in less than 24 hours from its release), and the elegantly decorated Liberty London frames (also a great success). This time around, the VISIVA SERIES project has a seasonal life of its own.

Following the season’s theme, Super will release a selection of pieces adorned with a precise selection of prints. Wether they be inside the frame, delicately placed on the front, or sharply decorating certain details, the eyewear will feature unique aesthetic characteristics that immediately bring out Super’s signature touch of style.

With this release, Super is proud to introduce the Poissons, a pre-collection release to anticipate the flavor and aesthetic of ‘VISIVA SERIES’: appealing, with an high visual impact, a completely unique style.
Working with two models introduced in our Autumn/Winter collection – the America and the Paloma – the Poissons offer a clean and determined retouch to both silhouettes, establishing their personality and broadening their range along the way.

As mentioned above, this pre-release pack also underlines a technique we have been experimenting and working with since our early days: the meticulous use of handcrafted prints and illustrations in eyewear.
Both the America and the Paloma have been given a subtle yet strong treatment through the careful application of illustrations by Louis Renard, a specialist in the 1700s in the marine creature illustrations. The application of these particular illustrations, dating mid-1700s, on the inside of the body of the shades elevates the eyewear to an unrivaled level, resulting in a completely unique style.

The America, solid and classic, comes in an intense dark Havana with a smooth tobacco lens. While the equally universal Paloma has been interpreted in an amber crystal acetate, also fitted with a tobacco lens. Two great shades sure to carry you stylishly and seamlessly towards the Summer.

For our 5th collaboration with Barneys NYC we decided to honor our shared dedication to our roots and uncompromised quality. So we stripped back to the essentials to produce a special version of our quality Evergreens: modest, modern and solid.

The limited edition shades feature our slick crystal acetate, clean and translucent so you can see and appreciate the frame and finesse of the skeleton within in its meticulous detail. The crystal is teamed with another rudimentary SUPER favorite: solid matte metal, keeping things essential.


Frames are set with a deep green lens – the green shade specifically chosen to honor to the impressive emerald lenses used to improve sight in the origins of lens use, by Rome’s 5th Emperor.

SUPER has joined forces with Australian cult lifestyle label Perks and Mini to produce a special limited edition capsule, the PAM II.
Featuring two well-loved SUPER silhouettes as you have never seen them before: the (ultra-feminine & provocative) Lucia, and the (solid & timeless) Ciccio.

SUPER joins an impressive list of brands who have collaborated with the influential Melbourne outfit, each one a leader in their respective fields. P.A.M, with its origins deep in experimental culture, shares SUPER’s commitment to boundary-pushing experimentation as well as giving attention to detail and construction; making the partnership a natural fit that naturally produced powerful results.

RELEASE PANAMÀ W12: RACER & STRIKING NEW COLORS November 23rd, 2011 - Main

Building upon the design and research of the Autumn 2011 collection, following a lot of thoughtful experimentation with a multitude of materials and shapes, SUPER returns this Winter with continuing exploration of PANAMÀ.
The Fall season opened the doors to a series of well defined and characteristic silhouettes, headed by metal and acetate combined shapes. Released in a selection of carefully researched tortoise and matched with tobacco and bottle green lenses to achieve a true Panamà flavor. Among the various incarnations of new models and revamped old favorites, we introduce our brand new sporty silhouette:

Racer

The novelty of the Winter collection, the Racer is, as its name suggests the sportiest, flashiest model of the season. The racer shades have a gritty masculine appeal, and all the charm of 70’s pilot, but worn by your sweetheart they’ll make your head spin!

Available in a glossy black-on-black with delicate gold plaques on the arms; a 70’s-drenched transparent caramel with tobacco brown lenses and gold plaques; and in a knock-out wild leopard Havana.

STRIKING NEW COLORS
The 11-12 Winter, comes stronger than ever, following up on this preceding experiences, seasons and shapes, to compose a collection of subtle, deep and cutting edge color-ways. 49er

The ‘retro-elegant’ 49er, first introduced in the Autumn collection, returns this Winter in two new impressive variations. Super’s modern-day take on the iconic explorer silhouette, with its resistant metal skeleton is semi-framed in acetate and fully framed in gold. Choose from a sporty emerald green acetate with a contrasting tobacco lens and gold hardware to brighten up a gray Winter’s morning, or the chic and beautiful rare tortoise Havana acetate equipped with dark brown lenses and gold hardware.

Giaguaro

The Giaguaro, which first set pulses racing in Autumn, has an established presence this Winter: With our metal skeleton partially set in the acetate to create a sturdy yet light structure; and our trademark technique of using dynamic color-ways and the combination of specially researched materials. Available this season in 4 daring color paths to satisfy the most discerning of palates: a slick and evergreen black completed with Zeiss rock-hard black lenses and a delicate silver bar across the front of the model; in our contemporary transparent skeleton, an eye-catching crystal acetate coupled with contrasting greens lenses; or in a deep bottle green with an elegant brown lens combo, and silver hardware. For the more adventurous, the shades come in a slick matte puma acetate—the result of meticulous research by Super—partially encased in a black acetate. Panamà

Paloma

The reliable Basic lets color do the talking this Winter. People CRAYON

Proven favorites with cross-season appeal, durable but never tired, the Winter collection would not be complete without the addition of the People to help you combat the Winter sun in style. In keeping with our thirst for innovation and research we have, as always, given our trusty friends an up-to-date edge by using them as a canvas to introduce our new crayon color path. Opaque color-ways, the prominent feature of the season, create an interesting and innovative contrast, unique to Super: Black matte and a matte crystal combination; Matte beige and matte crystal combination; and a matte dark gray and matte crystal duo-acetate combination. Made with researched acetates and historical techniques to create the duo-acetate effect, these shades can only be found at Super. Sure to draw stares this Winter.

Anchor

Following the Printed Palms seen in the Autumn collection, we revisit our new hand-designed illustration concept for Winter with another fantastic retro print. This time around handmade palm trees are replaced with old-school anchors, inspired by retro upholstery and hand-designed yet again by up-and-coming artist Ana Kras. The anchor print is mounted on the interior of each model, with declining shades of blue set on an inky retro blue against a contrasting glossy black shell exterior. The print is mounted on a selection of out new models and best-sellers alike, giving everyone a chance to wear their favorite or most-suited silhouette: Available in América, Basic, Flat Top, Flat Top Small and Paloma. RELEASE: SUPER & COOL CATS November 17th, 2011 - Main

SUPER got together with the achingly-cool French outfit Cool Cats. A unique meeting of minds, whose work we respect and has made them one of Europe’s most influential young multi-talented figures today. Together, we present a hand-customized special edition model, representing a shared vision of unrivaled style and substance.

Internationally renowned for its cult artwork, carefully-curated merchandise and collaborations, Cool Cats (& Ed Banger Records) ooze with the respect for its family – major players on the club and street scene—Pedro Winter, DJ, producer, founder of Ed Banger Records and legendary manager of Daft Punk; creative director SO-ME, in-house graphic genius at Ed Banger Records and music-video director; and Michael Dupouy, the mastermind behind web media and creative agency La MJC, and the power behind many French and internationally recognized street culture initiatives and publications.

Taking the design cue from the Cool Cats logo—the concept is to bring the cat’s (logo)sunglasses to life—SUPER worked with the Cool Cats design team led by SO-ME. The result: a hand-customized carnation of the much-loved W silhouette, the linear ‘retro-futuristic’ member of the SUPER family.

The shades were meticulously hand-crafted, reproducing a life-size Cool Cats logo, achieved by skillfully inserting the silver stripe by hand one-by-one, thanks to the cooperation of our experts at Carl Zeiss Vision!
As always we stayed true to the SUPER standards by using only top-notch materials: meaning quality solid black acetate and ruthenium hinges. The arms feature delicate silver inscriptions, hallmarks of quality SUPER finishing: the Cool Cats logo is displayed on the outer arms, winking in the sunlight.

The Panama & 49ers’s attention-grabbing next of kin: the Giaguaro has a more pronounced silhouette, available in havana light acetate with a unique frame partially set in golden amber acetate.

Gold detailing on the arms and a delicate gold bar across the front of the model add an old-school elegance, while the rare matte acetate is a result of much research, giving these shades an unmistakably contemporary vibe.

Created to satisfy both women and men, this smaller small version has an elegant, more gentleman appeal, yet maintains the sleek and sharp look of its bigger brother.

Lucia & People Piedra

Organic, natural colors and materials are amongst the main characteristics of this Panama’ collection. As the new Basic shapes are tinted of rich earthy minerals and elements, we see the new Lucia and People models made of a significant mineral matter. The Piedra series are colorful and full-bodied acetates, cut into the eloquent Super silhouettes of the People and Lucia (another highly replicated piece these past seasons).

The sharp angles and smooth curves of these two designs combined with the expressive stone material – with all its components clearly visible – create unique pieces, yet maintain the classic features of an everyday sunglass.

The América is a timeless re-modelling of a cult design, with equal parts ‘90s and ‘50s. This model invokes a particular Americana: jukeboxes, Cadillac and Johnny Cash, seen through the lens of a 90’s Wrigley’s commercial.

A solid silhouette with sturdy arms, with a clean rectangular shape, the América is available in dark havana acetate for a dramatic impact, in light caramel-colored havana with contrasting green lenses and an eternal solid black for modern, light-hearted updating of a cult classic.

A result of much research, the metal and acetate are the perfect synthesis of the Super aesthetic for Autumn 2011: unique, recognizable, eternal. In spirit, Panamá evokes within all of us the desire for escapism from everyday life, perhaps an imaginary haven with which you are transported when a single ray of light reflects on your face.

Following in the footsteps of last season’s collaboration with Swedish ‘street fashion’ brand WeSC, we have just completed a WeSC by RETROSUPERFUTURE capsule in line with their next collection. The free-spirited street cool of WeSC is perfectly captured with RETROSUPERFUTURE know-how, resulting in a light-hearted range of cute, quality shades.

We revisited the confidently kooky MOOSE model, first released with WeSC last season, in three new color-ways: a glossy black; an upbeat light tortoise matte, and a subtle transparent grey.

As always we have used only the finest of materials: top-notch acetate and Carl Zeiss lenses are guaranteed. The detail on the bridge of the MOOSE gives the shades a tongue-in-cheek futuristic feel, while the WeSC decor hinges are in keeping with the brand’s playfulness.

RELEASE: SUPER + IZZUE + HILARY June 1st, 2011 - Colab, Main, News

SUPER has teamed up with super-hip Hong Kong brand Izzue and the eclectic style guru Ms Hilary Tsui for a limited 200pz + 200pz special release of our iconic Flat Tops.

Two special editions of the best-selling signature SUPER silhouette have been designed in line with the much-anticipated collection designed by Hilary Tsui for Izzue, the youthful Hong Kong fashion label.

The vintage black/beige colour combo is in keeping with SUPER’s revamped-retro aesthetic, to varying degrees on either model: The Flat Tops are available either with a black frame and lens, and beige inside, or in a beige frame with black lens, with black inside.
The simplicity of the black frame model emphasizes the Flat Top silhouette, boldly outlining the iconic shape for maximum impact, while the beige frames slightly softens the Flat Top silhouette, playing up the vintage colour-contrast while retaining that Flat Top edge.

RELEASE: SUPER SUMMER 2011 May 25th, 2011 - Main

For those of you who thought that our Spring-Summer collection was going to finish just there…we’ve put together four new batches of sunglasses. Our signature high quality and sleek design for a bad-ass Summer.

THE POEPLE HORN COMBINED

The People Horn Combined set is a further exploration of the unique technique realized in our Vincenzo model. We used the same technique to combine havana and tortoise acetates for Vincenzo to combine different acetates with horn. In this case we have the completely contemporary—while at the same time seriously Seventies—havana and horn model in the People silhouette as well as in a slick black and horn.

THE SHELL

The Shell collection is a realization of two of our much-loved shapes, the People and Lucia, in a shell acetate that gives a jazzy feel to the trusty retro favourites.  The black shell acetate has a beautifully polished finish with pearly iridescent elements that beautifully reflect the light.
We varied the effects: the People version comes either with the all-over shell effect, or in the more understated version with dense black acetate outside and full shell inside. The distinctive Lucia shape lends itself naturally to a full shell effect inside and out. The Shell unisex shades are perfect for giving that subtle unique nod to your outfit or for those of you who want to stay true to their favourite SUPER shape but with a fresh twist.

THE BRIAR

The Briar models are an ode to the suave, cigar-smoking, 1970’s archetype—conjuring up images of him holding the briar steering wheel of his sports car, in leather gloves. The front of the sunglasses have a dense granite black front, with contrasting arms in the briar effect.
The effect is created using a rich material on the arms of the glasses, giving the same smooth, glossy appearance of radica as was used in luxury cars. While the Briar series may heavily invoke the 70’s, class is not confined to one era, making the Briar series a timeless classic in SUPER history, which will never date. Applied to our signature shapes: Basic, Flat-top, Andrea, People, Lucia and W.

And so, we introduce our New Green set. The tone-on-tone approach was our way of tweaking our existing silhouettes by playing with a simple, basic design element: colour—taking a very specifically SUPER approach.
The New Green models, similarly to our New Black and New Brown set released in Spring, mounts coloured lenses on coloured translucent acetate, thus creating the tone-on-tone affect. The translucency of the acetate allows you to see the hardware and details, a nice touch for highlighting the  meticulous handcraftsmanship. The New Greens come in the Basic, Flat-top and W silhouettes, each one a unique, timeless piece.

PRE RELEASE: FLAT TOP BLACK POLARIZED May 10th, 2011 - Main

As soon as we put the finishing touches to the FLAT TOP POLARIZED, we knew we wouldn’t be able to hold them back until the official release! Not due to hit stores until August, the special pre-release will be available exclusively from today on our website, running at a limited number—for those of you who like to err on the side of excellence.
The FLAT TOP POLARIZED is an extension of our iconic FLAT TOP model, our best-selling signature SUPER silhouette, adored on both sides of the pond by celebrities, sportsmen and coolhunters alike. Yet this version has a very notable addition: Carl Zeiss polarized lenses. A by-word for excellence, the Zeiss lenses not only have a specially laminated surface to keep harmful UVA and UVB rays at bay, but they also eliminate distracting and intrusive reflective glares, allowing you to drive or play sports in strong sunlight comfortably.

RELEASE: VINCENZO April 4th, 2011 - Colab, News

It’s that time again. For SUPER fiends who want to own an exceptional, stand-alone piece, we present the third offering in our special limited release series: VINCENZO

Following our exclusive editions RANDAGIO and ILARIA, VINCENZO is a distinctive restyling of our PEOPLE model, the slender-framed, easy-going member of the SUPER family.
Like the PEOPLE, the VINCENZO has smooth, shapely lenses set in geometrical angles to suit every face shape, but with an added twist. Limited to selected stores only, this special release is brave without being brash.
They may not make ‘em like they used to. But we do.

We are excited to tell you that the VINCENZO are handcrafted using a long-forgotten technique from the ‘70s that combines havana and tortoise acetates, lending authentic old-school kudos to these beauties. Chic Havana Classic is seamlessly blended with a fierce Puma acetate on both the arms and bridge of the model, updating the technique and giving it a current, bold feel.
The delicate gold plaques at the front and on the arms nicely catch the light to subtly twinkle against the Havana Classic acetate.

As with all of our products, VINCENZO is handcrafted meticulously in Italy, using only top-drawer materials and Zeiss lenses for indisputable quality and un-rivalled UV protection. A knockout model sure to turn heads—catch ‘em while you can.

Since day one in 2007, our objective was to create a brand that would enclose four main characteristics: contemporary well defined designs, top quality materials, the best price point these two combinations could ever have and making a product for everyone, for the People. These principles are still what guide us today.
The result of three years of hard work and commitment. Experimenting with leather, metal, acetate, and the combination of them all. Defined and refined in one core and contemporary collection. With the addition of a small selection of new color combinations, this is the Spring for Super, that altogether make up the most complete collection yet.

THE CONTEMPORARY COLORS

Our three recently released silhouettes come in a complete new color range that remind us of the early days, the start of Super with the launch of the colored Basic model three years ago. But this time adapted and restudied in an elegant and cutting edge version. The People, Andrea, and Lucia come in a semi-transparent acetate in a range of warm and soft colors: honey, ice, bottle green, washed out blue, and deep brown. These are the colors that will light up your summer.

THE LEATHERS

The Leather Flat Top has become another iconic product of Super, the smell of the real leather and the handcrafted artesian work behind these shades give this piece a real uniqueness. Available in 3 burning colors: black, brown and beige. In addition to these three established colors you will find another version that combines leather and acetate: the “Randagio”. A Puma acetate skeleton hand covered in top-notch leather with refined gold details that gives it a determined and accurate design.

THE HORN (NEW)

As the Leather is the representation of how our continuous research in material and texture is an important characteristic, and how it can transform a simple model in to a must have piece without going over the top in excessive looks. The Lucia and People are realized in a full iridescent Shell and a retro Ivory, standing out in excellence in our new collection. This versatile material has also been studied and combined with various techniques and other acetates revealing a whole new aesthetic, wether it be exposed or kept in the interior of the eyewear.

THE TONE ON TONE (NEW)

These new Tone on Tone sets are yet another example of how Super remains true to its roots, yet is in continuous evolution. These new tints are a natural evolution of our color on color 2009 models. Specifically studied for the kind of people that are not to keen on loud colors, yet still would like to have a little twist in their eyewear. Today in a new transparent black and deep brown. A more contemporary look, less flashy, yet simple and fresh. For everyday use, wether it be under the sun in Miami or during a visit to the roman Pantheon.

THE COMBINED

The act of combining metal and acetate results in a unique and fine piece of eyewear that distinctly recalls certain timeframes and styles in history. They are elegant, yet  young and fresh. The guiding of the materials highlight their aesthetics and colliding values, bringing out the strength and coolness of the metal with the flexible life of the acetate and the soft and soothing touch of the leather.

THE GINO AND THE CHICANO

The Gino and Chicano are what we refer to as our “tough nuts”, our insatiable warriors, whom have been keep the name high since their release in 2008-2009.  A Flat Top and a Ciccio Flat Top have been adorned on their tops with distinctive gold details: a triangle and an incisive straight decoration. They are the square-breakers. These individual pieces are meant to stand alone from the pack and when combined they are a strong and characteristic team, the typical design that takes time to be understood. But yet when this happens, they are for sure the ones that know  how to steal the spotlight.

THE BLONDE HAVANA MATTE

The Blond Havana Matte is definitely one of the simplest yet characteristic components of our 2010 collection, directly leaping it amongst our most prevailing and popular pieces. Like black sunglasses, havana is one of the biggest selling colors in the eyewear market, eternal, easy to wear, elegant and classy. We decided to give it a personal touch, just to stand out a little from the crowd, so we made it matte. THE BLACK HAVANA (NEW)

The Black Havana can easily be defined “The new black”. This is a piece worth of attention, with their shiny black coating on the exterior of the frame, they secretly hide a fierce havana acetate on the inside, that remind us of a tropical Panamanian leopard. This new color will be available in all our top frames, for those who want a classic shade with a touch. Flawless.
